The Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española (ASALE, the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language) and SANTILLANA have signed an agreement for the "production, publishing and distribution of a pan-Hispanic school dictionary".

The document was signed by the president of ASALE, Darío Villanueva, and the Director of Operations in Spain for Santillana, Gustavo Patricio Leiva. They were accompanied by Francisco Javier Pérez, general secretary of ASALE, and Raúl González, Global Director of Children's and Young People's Literature at Santillana - LOQUELEO.

The pan-Hispanic dictionary will include the basic vocabulary that a student aged up to 12 should deal with, shared by all Spanish speakers, to which will be added the vocabulary specific to each nation.

At the meeting of directors and presidents held in San Juan de Puerto Rico as part of the seventh International Language Congress, ASALE, aware of the lack of and need for a dictionary from the academies for Spanish-speaking students, approved the publication of a pan-Hispanic school dictionary. Subsequently, the Permanent Committee of ASALE endorsed the agreement.
